The Work Behind: Toni Rudiger

Toni Rudiger is one of the nominees in the vote for the German national team Player of the Year, and he is also the latest member of the Chelsea squad to talk us through some of the work the players do behind the scenes at Cobham...

How long before training do you arrive at Cobham?

We have to be here 45 minutes before training starts so generally we will train at around 10.30am, so we need to be in at 9.45am. I have breakfast at home and then when I get to Cobham I have some treatment, if it’s necessary, and then go into the gym to do whatever work I need to do. I don't do any yoga.

How many pairs of boots do you get through in a season?

It depends really. In a season I would probably get through 10 or 15 pairs.

What are your ideal training conditions?

I just like to train when the weather is warm.

Do you wear the same kit every day in training?

We wear the same kit but in the winter I prefer to wear long sleeves. When it comes to matches, though, I always wear short sleeves.

Do you have lunch at Cobham?

Yes, I have lunch here before I go home for rest. Because I eat here I know I’m eating the right food. When I’m not here, after we've played a game I like to eat a proper burger.
