We round-up the past seven days for our players developing out on loan, and preview a busy week ahead for Chelsea sides…
Michy Batshuayi was on target again for Borussia Dortmund, scoring their opener in a 2-0 win over Hamburg. The Belgian has three goals in his first two appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, who sit third in the German top flight.
Back on these shores, Kenedy helped Newcastle United record a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at St James’ Park. The Brazilian started on the left-hand side of midfield as the Magpies won at home in the Premier League for the first time since October.
Kurt Zouma was part of Stoke’s defence as they drew 1-1 at home with Brighton, a result which could have been better were it not for Charlie Adam’s 90th-minute penalty miss. Tammy Abraham came off the bench for Swansea shortly before they scored in a 1-0 win over Burnley, a result which means the Swans are a point clear of the Premier League drop zone.
Charly Musonda helped Celtic progress in the Scottish FA Cup, playing for just over an hour as the Hoops beat Partick Thistle 3-2 to reach the quarter-finals.
In the Eredvisie, Fankaty Dabo, Matt Miazga and Mason Mount all lined up for Vitesse Arnhem against Feyenoord on Sunday. Mount set up Vitesse’s first in a 3-1 win over opponents who had two men sent off in the second half. The same trio also played in a 1-0 defeat at Den Haag last Thursday. In Turkey, Kenneth Omeruo featured for Kasimpasa in a 1-1 draw with Yeni Malatyaspor on Friday night.
Ola Aina and Michael Hector featured in defence for Hull who earned their first league win in 10 matches when they beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the City Ground. By doing so, they climbed out of the Championship relegation zone.
Jake Clarke-Salter lined up in defence for Sunderland, who came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Bristol City. It was a big result for the Black Cats who sit second from bottom, three points adrift of safety.
Jamal Blackman returned between the sticks for Sheffield United, making his first league appearance since the start of December as the Blades secured an important 2-1 victory over Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.
Tomas Kalas and Lucas Piazon both started for Fulham in their 1-1 draw at Bolton. Derby and Norwich played out the same scoreline, with Kasey Palmer coming off the bench for the Rams, his second appearance for his new loan side.
In League One, Ike Ugbo was on target for MK Dons, opening the scoring against Portsmouth who battled back to win 2-1. Jordan Houghton and Jay Dasilva came up against each other as Doncaster hosted Charlton, with the match ending 1-1. Todd Kane played at right-back for Oxford, who were beaten 2-1 by Bristol Rovers.
In the National League, Nathan Baxter kept a clean sheet for 10-man Woking who beat Chester 1-0, with Jared Thompson doing the same for Chippenham Town in the National League South as they beat Bognor Regis Town by the same scoreline.
The week ahead
There is certainly no shortage of matches in the coming days, including two first-team games before the weekend. Both are 8pm kick-offs at Stamford Bridge, tonight’s in the league against West Brom before we host Hull from the Championship in the FA Cup on Friday. Tickets for the cup match are still on general sale.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the spotlight falls onto the Under-18s who continue their quest for a fifth consecutive FA Youth Cup. This is an away tie in the fifth round, against Tottenham at Stevenage FC. Kick-off is 7pm and the match is live on Chelsea TV.
There is no match Wednesday but there is a special chance to meet and hear from Chelsea Ladies star players Fran Kirby and Karen Carney. They appear at the Stamford Bridge Megastore between 4pm and 5pm for a Q&A and a signing session.
On Friday, as well as the first team in the FA Cup, there is also a game for the development squad who kick-off at 7.05pm against Manchester United away at Leigh Sports Village. That is a Premier League 2 meeting.
On Saturday morning away at Everton at 11am, there is an Under-18 Premier League Cup semi-final and Chelsea Ladies also have a cup-tie on Sunday. They play at home to Doncaster Rovers Belles in the FA Women's Cup fifth round. That match at Kingsmeadow begins at 2pm.
