Young Blues await UYL draw

The UEFA Youth League returns for our Under-19s this month and later today they will find out their round-of-16 opponents as the draw is made in Nyon.

Joe Edwards’s side finished top of Group C after winning five of their six matches against Atletico Madrid, Roma and Qarabag. The group winners advanced directly to the last-16, while the runners-up faced an away play-off against one of the eight sides progressing through the domestic champions path.

The draw will now be unseeded with no country protection or guarantee of home advantage. The only stipulation is that teams cannot face sides they have already played in the group stage, thereby ruling out a repeat meeting with Atletico. Our possible opponents are listed below.

Possible UYL last-16 opponents

Group winners Playoff winners

Bayern Munich

Manchester United

Manchester City

Ties are one-legged and can be either home or away, scheduled to be played on 20/21 February. The quarter-final and semi-final draw will also be made at 1pm this afternoon in the Swiss town of Nyon, home to UEFA headquarters and host of the semi-final/final weekend in late April. Details will be confirmed on this website.

At the same time, our Under-18s are back in league action this afternoon. Jody Morris’s youngsters have the chance to go nine points clear at the top of the southern section when they host Swansea City at Cobham, kick-off 1.15pm.
