Women’s Internationals: Mjelde on the scoresheet

Chelsea Ladies players went unbeaten in the latest batch of international tournament matches.

Norway recovered from defeat in their opening game at the Algarve Cup with a win in their second, thanks in no small part to Maren Mjelde who scored the second goal late on in their 2-0 victory over China.

Maria Thorisdottir also featured, as a substitute an hour into the game, and the win puts the Norwegians one point behind Australia, whom they lost to narrowly earlier in the week, and Portugal, their final group-stage opposition on Monday.

There was a Chelsea head-to-head in one of the other group games in that tournament with Ji So-Yun playing the whole of South Korea’s match against Sweden. Jonna Andersson and Magda Eriksson came on after an hour for the Swedes who scored first but conceded a first-half equaliser with the final score 1-1. Hedvig Lindahl remained on the bench for this one. South Korea and Sweden top their group with four points apiece and games against Canada and Russia respectively to come.

In the Cyprus Cup, a muscle injury kept Ramona Bachmann out of Switzerland’s 4-0 victory over Finland. They have a crucial game against Wales next week.

On Saturday evening, Erin Cuthbert was involved for Scotland in the first of two matches against New Zealand. The Blues midfielder started the game and set up Scotland's second in a 2-0 win. The sides will meet again on Tuesday.
