Women’s Internationals: Wins for Swedes and Scots

Sweden are through to final of the Algarve Cup international tournament having beaten Russia 3-0 in their final group game.

Magda Eriksson (pictured) played the full game and Jonna Andersson all but the final quarter-of-an-hour in the defence that kept a clean sheet, with Hedvig Lindahl unused.

The Swedes now face European champions the Netherlands to decide the overall winner tomorrow (Wednesday).

South Korea, with Ji So-Yun in their side, went down 3-0 to Canada in their third group match so the competition’s format means they now play-off against Norway for seventh and eighth places. The Norwegians, with a central defence of Maren Mjelde and Maria Thorisdottir, went down 2-0 to hosts Portugal in their last group game.

In the Cyprus Cup, Ramona Bachmann was back for Switzerland and hit the post, but their match against Wales ended 0-0 and they now play-off for third place in that tournament against North Korea.

Scotland Women made it two 2-0 wins in a row against New Zealand as their preparations for next month’s World Cup qualifiers continue to go well.  As on Saturday, Erin Cuthbert was involved for the Scots in their latest win.
