Surprise guest thrills Soccer School youngsters

Players from the Chelsea Foundation Soccer School in Hong Kong enjoyed a training session with Pedro this week as the Spanish star joined them at Cobham.

The 30-year-old surprised the group when he joined them for a training session, much to the delight of the youngsters in attendance.

Both girls and boys from our Soccer School in Hong Kong have spent the last week in London, enjoying fixtures against our Foundation Development sides, regular training sessions at Cobham and a visit to Stamford Bridge to watch Antonio Conte’s side face Tottenham Hotspur.

Pedro then made their trip extra special when he joined our guests on Wednesday afternoon for a kick-a-round before posing for photos and signing autographs.

Speaking after the session, Pedro said: ‘I enjoyed it a lot, meeting and playing with the children – it’s a blessing for me always to play with them. It was a good experience for me and also for them to play with a player.

‘It’s very important for us to the take time out and do these type of things - it’s a very good experience for them, they can learn and hopefully it will help them because they are the future.’

Senior international development officer David Monk, said: ‘It’s been a fantastic week at Cobham with our longest-serving Chelsea FC Soccer School from Hong Kong.

‘They’ve visited off the back of a tournament in Spain and we’ve continued that competitive focus by training intensively each morning and playing in fixtures each afternoon, all at our Cobham training ground.

‘Over the past eight years the Hong Kong Soccer School has achieved many awards for community and charity work. However, they’ve also created a great development programme for talented youngsters who play weekly and have even gone on to play professionally after graduating from the Soccer School.

‘We hope this trip will be a memorable experience for these 30 youngsters and we look forward to more players from the Chelsea family in Asia visiting soon.’
