MATCH REPORT: CHARLTON LFC 0 CHELSEA LFC 0
Chelsea Ladies failed to secure three points away to Charlton despite controlling possession throughout the game.
Carrying confidence from our triumph over Watford, Chelsea Ladies travelled to face a young Charlton team on their home soil with hopes of doubling the three points we secured at our first meeting with the Addicks earlier this season.
A delayed kick-off allowed the pitch at Dartford FC to soak up the excess water and the game started positively for the Blues. We moved the ball well but struggled to break through Charlton's deep defensive line.
The long periods of possession led to a trio of chances for Jess Smith, the best of which came when the midfielder latched onto an Emma Delves cross only to send the ball off the bar and into the keeper, and failing to find the back of the net.
The best chance of the game fell to Lorrie Fair in the 38th minute as the American broke into the left of the box but struck the ball straight into the arms of the Addicks' keeper.
As the first-half drew to close the Blues had played some fantastic football but seemed frustrated as the possession resulted in no end product.
The second-half saw much of the same with Chelsea still struggling to break the deadlock. Changes were made in the front and midfield as the team searched for the illusive opener.
However, the arrival of Emma Whitter and Eniola Aluko to the strike-force failed to open the scoring, despite the chances created by the substitutions.
The game finished in worsening conditions and with no goals at either end.
'Possibly a fair result but a disappointing result in what is becoming an inconsistent season for the Blues,' said Shaun Gore, Chelsea Ladies' manager.
'Although we are very disappointed with the result, all credit to Charlton in the way the young team weathered the pressure.
'One thing is certain, we need to keep working on the final aspect of our game if we are going to improve enough to compete week in week out with the top sides,' he added.
Chelsea Chamberlain, Delves, Rabson, cooper, Perry, Buet (Owen 76), Smith, Edwards, Rafferty, White (Whitter 54), Fair (Aluko 54).
Unused subs Susi, Davies.
