Education Projects
Chelsea FC's Education Projects aim to add the magic and excitement of Chelsea FC to the learning experience. Our approach is particularly effective in targeting harder-to-reach groups, as well as those who may be in need of additional support and attention.
Over the past few years we have helped to inspire thousands of learners ranging from the under 7s to the over 75s!
Examples of our current educational initiatives include:
- Chelsea FC Education Through Football (ETF)
This unique programme in partnership with Westminster City Archives is delivered in 26 primary schools in the clubs local boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea.
The project runs across the whole school year and uses specially developed resources and materials to explore the changes in society during the twentieth century through the medium of Chelsea Football Club. Education Officers deliver in-school workshops, using original pictures, stories and artefact-handling to bring the past alive for these young people.
- Premier League Reading Stars
Launched in 2003, this initiative is a partnership between the National Literacy Trust, the Premier League and the Football Foundation. Each season one of the Club's first team players nominates his favourite adult and children's book, which are collated in a list of the top Premier League recommended reads.
The Club links with local libraries to deliver an inspirational programme of events and activities, which aim to encourage children to visit their local library more often and to develop their interest in reading.
- Chelsea FC Alive and Kicking
Developed especially to give something back to our respected senior members of the local community, the Alive and Kicking project in partnership with Open Age is only open to those aged 75 and over! The project aims in particular to target older men who may be vulnerable to social isolation.
The project has been extremely successful with the Club's senior fans who attend a weekly reminiscence workshop and computer skills sessions in The Chelsea Hub.
- Pass and Move with Chelsea FC
The Pass and Move project in partnership with Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College and SkillsBank Solutions aims to encourage those who are out of work and help them to achieve qualifications that will help them in their employment goals.
We are constantly developing projects, events and activities which make use of the excellent facilities in the Chelsea Hub. Look out for regular updates on all our education projects in the matchday programme.
