Chelsea Football Club and Didier Drogba were both honoured last night at the Score4Africa awards ceremony held at the House of Lords.

Coinciding with the start of the Kick it Out Week of Action, Chelsea FC picked up the Score4Africa Partnership Award whilst Didier won the People's Choice Award.

The SCORE4Africa awards honour the huge contribution football makes to African development. The award celebrated Chelsea's work with our global charity partner Right To Play, recognising the use of the power of sport to alleviate conflict as well as promoting the development of individuals and communities and the prevention of TB, Malaria and HIV/AIDS.

Drogba, who attended the ceremony, said: 'It's a great honour that both me and the club have been recognised by Score4Africa. The development of Africa is a subject very close to my heart and one I am really passionate about. I think that football and the players can make a huge difference in raising awareness and helping to tackle the issues affecting the continent.

Simon Taylor Chelsea's head of corporate social responsibility picked up the Partnership Award on behalf of the club.

'It's a great honour that our partnership with Right To Play has been recognised by such a prestigious organisation,' he said. 'We are proud of the work both the club and the players undertake for our communities, both home and abroad.'

Every week hundreds of thousands of young Africans have their lives transformed through our partnership. Working in 14 African countries, the Right To Play programmes are specifically designed to teach important skills including leadership, teamwork, respect and fair-play.

The network and infrastructure they establish enable local communities to take ownership of the programmes, leaving a long-lasting impact.

Other award winners at the high profile event hosted by Baroness Amos and Baroness Howell included former Chelsea striker George Weah and Arsene Wenger who had his award picked up by another Chelsea old boy, Carlton Cole.
