EURO 2008: BALLACK UP FOR MONDAY CRUNCH
Michael Ballack has put pressure on himself to raise his performance level ahead of tonight's final Group B matches.
The Germany captain and his team-mates need a single point from their final game to make the quarter-finals. The opposition are co-hosts and neighbours Austria who themselves harbour hopes of qualifying. The venue city is Vienna.
'I'm not at all inhibited, the amount of pressure is totally normal for me. I'm looking forward to the game,' Ballack has told uefa.com.
The Germans find themselves in a tight situation following a 2-1 defeat against Croatia in their second game after an opening win over Poland. Germany have so far played a classic 4-4-2 with Ballack central alongside Werder Bremen's Torsten Frings, but the midfield has at times looked outmanoeuvred.
'I know I can play better and should play better. Overall we haven't played to our full potential yet,' Ballack has said, revealing he has been part of a players' inquiry since the Croatia game.
'We've resolved to give everything on Monday. We are honest enough to be self-critical. It wasn't a crisis meeting but players were able to speak more openly away from the coaches. Sometimes you need to talk as footballers do, among ourselves.'
The match kicks-off at 7.45pm UK time. Germany will play Portugal on Thursday should they progress.
Bookmakers Paddy Power are offering odds of 21/10 that Michael Ballack scores against Austria and Germany win.
