PADDY POWER PAYS THE PENALTY
Paddy Power's latest Money-Back Special has seen punters refunded to the tune of £500,000 over the weekend.
Paddy Power's Money-Back Special for the Euro 2008 quarter-finals was triggered twice when Croatia v Turkey and Spain v Italy both went to penalty shootouts.
This led to Paddy Power paying out the 'losing 90 minute match bets' on the winning teams Turkey and Spain. While Turkey were relatively unfancied against Croatia, Spain had been heavily backed to see off the Italians, returning punters around £350,000.
Paddy Power, spokesman for the bookie, said: 'We somewhat paid the penalty on this Money-Back Special. But it can be frustrating to see the team you backed reach the next round while failing to profit from it, so this will allow punters to have another go in the semis.'
BALLACK'S ODDS ON
Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is joint favourite to become player of the tournament as Paddy Power place a 3/1 chance on the German captain being given the prestigious title.
