TENNIS STARS AT HOME WITH CHELSEA
Wimbledon semi-finalists Elena Dementieva and Zheng Jie, both in action on Thursday, have been residing in our Millenium & Copthorne Hotels during their stay in west London, and have been presented with their own personalised Chelsea shirts.
The hotels, located at Stamford Bridge, are the official approved hotels to The Championships, Wimbledon 2008, and the comfort in which the pair are staying has no doubt helped their progress.
Zheng (pictured) met number six seed Serena Williams, and in doing so became the first ever Chinese tennis player to make it to a grand slam semi-final.
Her match was watched by a huge television audience as her homeland tuned in to see whether she could reach an unprecedented first final. Sadly it was not to be.
The 24-year-old wild card has promised to donate all her prize money from the tournament to victims of the recent Sichuan earthquake, a cause close to Chelsea and one we will be supporting during our Asian tour this summer.
Russian Dementieva lost out to the older Williams sister, Venus, in her first Wimbledon semi, having surpassed her quarter-final appearance two years ago.
Having recently undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment, the luxury hotels offer the players and officials both stylish and relaxing accommodation away from the on court pressures at Wimbledon.
The 275 rooms across both hotels will provide all the high quality specifications required including wifi broadband, flat screen TVs and video on demand.
