Chelsea Ladies had two new signings in the form of Anita Asante and Lianne Sanderson join today from Arsenal.

The England internationals were at Cobham to officially receive their new Chelsea shirts before beginning pre-season training with the Ladies on Sunday.

20-year-old Sanderson (pictured on the left) is widely regarded as one of the best young players in the Ladies' game, as her goal tally proves.

Last season the striker scored an astonishing 52 goals in 38 games, beating her previous season's record of 41 goals in 40 games, as well as netting two goals for her country.

While Asante is an experienced defender who has 31 England caps to her name as well as UEFA Cup Final, European championships and World Cup experience.

The strong-tackling 23-year-old now brings that wealth of knowledge to Chelsea Ladies and will be a huge asset to the team.

Both girls have the drive and motivation to take the Blues to a new level in women's football, and, after several successful years with the Gunners, are ready for a new challenge.

'I always said I would never play for anyone else other than Chelsea. I have been at Arsenal for 11 years and it is a big change for me to have to leave the team, but both Anita and I wanted a new challenge,' explained Sanderson.

'Sometimes you have to try new things and challenge yourself personally and I know that is what I am looking forward to doing here.

'So now I am just looking forward to what's ahead. Hopefully Anita and I will come in and help Chelsea Ladies win things.'

Asante's aims are much the same as Sanderson's, which is perhaps not surprising as the two players have spent a decade with one another at Arsenal, a team that once again won this year's Women's Premier League title, while Everton finished second.

'I want to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Everton and hopefully get to some finals, like the League Cup Final,' said Asante.

'But I also don't want to assume anything; it is going to take a lot of hard work as well as getting the girls together to seek that ambition.

'But it is such a great squad here at Chelsea, with lots of enthusiasm and lots of young players.

'We also know a lot of the younger players who were at Arsenal before and our England team mates, but there are so many other players who want to win things and will be up for it this season.'

One of those England team mates is Sanderson's fellow striker Eniola Aluko, who joined Chelsea from Charlton Athletic at the beginning of last season.

Sanderson is now relishing the chance to be reunited with Aluko, after playing alongside her in the England under 19s, as well as rejoining Chelsea Ladies' captain Casey Stoney.

'I played with Eniola at England and we definitely had a good connection between us. But then all the players here impress me.

'I have played with Casey a lot and Sian Larkin and I am looking forward to meeting the new players as well and just seeing what they are about,' said Sanderson.

'Chelsea are going in a positive direction and they have a lot of young players in the team who want to go forward, and we thought we could make a positive contribution,' added Asante.

There's one last ambition left for Sanderson to aim for as she contemplates next season with the Blues, and that involves her prolific goal rate.

'I want to beat my score record from last year,' explained Sanderson.

'People may ask how I expect to do that, but I scored 41 goals the season before and I said I would better that and I did.

'As for the team on the whole I want us to be able to win things, I am not expecting miracles over night. But with the team they have here - adding Anita and me to that will hopefully create the correct formula for us to go places.'
