Speaking on Chelsea TV, Bruce Buck shed light on life inside the club during the period between managers at the end of last season.

The Chelsea chairman gave Blues fans an insight into the intense media scrutiny surrounding the club as we searched for Avram Grant's replacement during the final days of May and the beginning of June.

Regaling Chelsea TV subscribers with tails from the media's analysis of that time, Buck used an example of one member from the Coventry City backroom staff who claimed to have been approached by the club.

'There was this coach or assistant coach at Coventry who indicated that he had been asked to join [Felipe] Scolari's team, but he had told his chairman that he wasn't going to do it and he was going to stay at Coventry,' explained Buck.

'These kinds of stories do not have one shred of truth in them and lots of people were trying to leverage off the Chelsea selection process at the time.'

Some of the media's attention even became a source of humour for Buck as the press left no stone unturned in their quest for information.

'I was at Heathrow Airport terminal two one morning at about 8am and happened to see a reporter we normally see around the press room, and he followed me all the way to my flight.

'I guess he thought he could figure out exactly what I was doing. But we had a lot of fun,' reminisces Buck.

He also spoke of how, once the meeting with Scolari had taken place, there was no other candidate so perfectly suited for the role. But there was one thing, other than the Brazilian's impressive CV, which stood out for Buck.

'My first impression was how good his English is,' expressed the chairman.

'I thought it was important, we are in England and it's an English club.

'I knew he could speak English at the press conference, I knew he would wow everybody and he did.

'The press are always suspect about managers that seem to have everything translated, but I think they were quite impressed with the way Felipe handled English, and the way he handled them.

'He has been there, done that, and has been very successful as a manager over many years.

'But I also think he is a very genuine man, he is down to earth and he is very knowledgeable.

'He just seems like a very good man and he will definitely have the respect of all our players, and it's just onwards and upwards.'

With the arrival of a new manager normally comes a convoy of backroom staff, but Buck was keen to quell fears any Blue may have over a certain Chelsea legend's role at the club.

'Steve Clarke is Chelsea Football Club through and through.

'He has been with the club in a coaching role for a long time, even before he took the job with José.

'We have the greatest respect for Steve Clarke. He has met several times with Felipe and I think they are getting on fine.

'I am optimistic that Steve will be an important part of Felipe's coaching staff this year and in the future,' explained Buck.

As he moved back onto the topic of the British press, there was one theme, a favourite for the media, he was eager to explain - the relationship between the manager and owner.

'It really does fascinate the media and all of us, but I think that at any club the relationship between the owner and the management is important.

'At Chelsea Football Club, Roman is the owner and he loves Chelsea, he loves football and he wants to be knowledgeable on the football side of things.

'So his relationship between himself and the manager is important and I think that sometimes in the press we hear that Roman is picking the team or Roman's meddling or Roman is doing this or Roman's doing that, and that's not it at all.

'You know he just wants to understand what's going on and be part of the football. I think Felipe is confident enough of his own skills and own ability for his relationship with Roman to be superb.'
