Deco believes Stamford Bridge is the best place for him, and is looking forward to competing for a place in our formidable midfield.

The 30-year-old Portuguese playmaker arrived at the club this summer and has quickly settled in on the training field, linking up with some old and new faces.

His arrival has raised questions about just who will fit into Luiz Felipe Scolari's midfield, with world class competition coming from Michael Ballack, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien, to name just three.

It is a challenge that Deco is looking forward to, and he hopes he can build some effective partnerships on the pitch.

'It's great that there are so many good players and I am used to playing alongside great players,' said the former Barcelona man. 'Here we have a fantastic midfield which will be good for the team.'

Often utilised in an advanced role, there are suggestions that Deco may be competing with Frank Lampard for a place in the side, but when asked whether he would like the Englishman to stay at the Bridge, Deco was quite sure, and believes they can operate equally effectively together.

'Of course, he is a fantastic player. I have played against him many times, and now seeing him in training he is an absolute pleasure to watch because he works hard, is very good at what he does and has a great attitude. I am very pleased to play with him.

'I said before I would like him to stay here and hope he will. It would be great if he stayed and we all played together.'

That is quite a combination for Blues fans to imagine, and there is not long to wait to see Scolari's first friendly, which may offer up some questions.

Deco worked with the Brazilian for five years in the Portugal setup, but dismissed any ideas that he only came to Chelsea to be reunited.

'I already knew there was an interest from Chelsea about me and when I heard he was coming as well it was easy to come to Chelsea, but in any case I would have come to Chelsea even if Mr Scolari wasn't here,' he confirmed.

One of Deco's main aims at the club is to wrap up a first Champions League success, something he has experienced twice before, with Porto in 2004 and Barcelona two years later.

'I would love to win the Champions League again with Chelsea,' he said.

'It would be absolutely fantastic because I know how much Chelsea wants to win it. That's what we are here for, to give our best and to help Chelsea win the Champions League we haven't won yet.

'I had an opportunity to choose from many other clubs in England and also in Italy but I don't want to talk about that anymore, it is in the past.

'Now I am at Chelsea and all I wanted was to go to a club that could win titles and be on top of my game.

'I think Chelsea is the best club for me to be at right now because they are at the top of the league and trying to win titles in every competition they enter.'
