EXPECTATIONS OF ENGLAND
Deco has been talking more about his move to Chelsea and some of the differences he anticipates in English football.
Having played club football in his native Brazil, adopted country Portugal and most recently Spain, the midfielder is hoping to make an equally impressive impact in the Premier League, and believes he has all the right factors around him.
The 30-year-old became the first signing since the announcement that Luiz Felipe Scolari would take charge, and has been able to shed a little light on what his former international manager is like.
As we have shown on chelseafc.com and Chelsea TV, the players have been working hard under Scolari's direction, and Deco insists we must not be surprised.
'Well obviously in training he is a little hard but that is normal. He is a very friendly guy and very passionate about his work,' the playmaker explained.
'He loves the players to be dedicated and not playing around during the time to work hard, and is a lovely person outside of work.'
Having spent four years with Barcelona, winning both domestic and European titles, Deco opted for a fresh start in England this summer, and is not expecting any problems in adjusting to the style of football here.
'Well I think the advantage here is the way the referees conduct the game and let the game flow a bit better. They don't stop which is better for the players and fans,' he said.
'In Spain they stop the game for minor things, but they do have a lot more passing of the ball. I don't think I will miss anything of the style in Spain, but am really enthusiastic and looking forward to playing in this country. It is a great challenge for me.
'Here we are training more which I like because I enjoy it. We train in the morning and afternoon, so have time to spend together, recover from sessions, and the mentality here is different and very interesting, which I like.'
Deco has already expressed his desire to lift silverware, notably a third Champions League of his career, and insists there are all the ingredients needed at Stamford Bridge.
'Well I believe that what I see at Chelsea is a lot of quality. Chelsea has everything to win the Champions League and Premier League as well and I am sure Mr Scolari will win as much as he can.
'I played against Chelsea many times and every time they made it difficult. I believe this Chelsea team is very strong and can make history by winning a first Champions League.'
