Chelsea continued their pre-season preparations with a comfortable victory over Chinese Super League side Chengdu Blades in Macau on Saturday.

In a game that helped raise funds for the Sichaun earthquake appeal, Luiz Felipe Scolari's men never looked in any danger as goals from Nicolas Anelka, Salomon Kalou, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole (2), Franco Di Santo and Shaun Wright-Phillips completed an easy win on a hot summer's night.

Three days after the first game of pre-season, Scolari opted to change things around and begin with a three-man midfield, the triumvirate of Lampard, Essien and Deco all again starting, while Wednesday's 90-minute man John Mikel Obi was given a rest.

Shaun Wright-Phillips started in his place, while Alex came in for Ricardo Carvalho, the other player who completed the full game against Guangzhou in midweek.

On the bench was Joe Cole who had missed Wednesday's game due to injury, though there was still no Andriy Shevchenko. The game came too soon for Michael Ballack and Scott Sinclair, who have joined up with the squad over the last 36 hours.

Chelsea began the game with plenty of possession, and it was only two minutes before Lampard tested goalkeeper Lan Yi's handling with a long-range drive.

Deco displayed plenty of his trademark deft touches early on, creating space for Wright-Phillips and Kalou on the flanks, yet no further breakthrough was made in the first 10 minutes.

Shortly after that mark, Anelka broke wide on the right and pulled back for the Ivorian, but he fired over when well placed.

His African colleague Essien was next to try his luck, as he forecasted on chelseafc.com before the game, but it was Anelka who eventually broke the deadlock.

The Frenchman latched on to a through ball from Wright-Phillips and just beat the Chengdu keeper to the ball, rounded him coolly and tapped in from a yard. It was his first goal in a Chelsea shirt since February 2, and a welcome confidence boost after an impressive display against Guangzhou.

Minutes later Anelka demonstrated his newfound self-belief with a 30-yard effort that had much of the crowd on its feet, but ended up narrowly wide of the goal.

A long Cech clearance found Wright-Phillips with plenty of space, and he cleverly headed into the path of Anelka before receiving the return. Inside the area, the diminutive winder should have at least hit the target, but like Kalou before him shot over.

On the half-hour mark both players made amends. Wright-Phillips sent a channel pass through for Anelka, who squared for Kalou and this time there was no mistake. Chelsea were cruising and Chengdu had hardly threatened.

A third goal was ruled out for offside, before Lampard did make one count, finishing into an empty net after Kalou laid back into his path. It was turning into an easier than anticipated workout, and inevitably the pace began to drop as Chelsea's players kept possession of the ball, and their legs fresh.

Finally Chengdu threatened just before the half-time whistle, when captain Wang Song drove from distance. His shot was just over, but did at least make sure Petr Cech was alert and not merely a distant spectator.

The break brought with it five subsitutions as Ivanovic, Carvalho, Bridge, Mikel and Malouda took to the field, with the shape remaining the same.

It was Malouda who came closest to adding to the goal count early in the second period, but arrived just too late to get on the end of Wright-Phillips' through ball.

On 53 minutes Scolari opted to experiment, and introduced Joe Cole in place of John Terry. Moving Essien to right-back, he deployed Ivanovic as a centre-half alongside Carvalho, a change from his position on the right on Wednesday.

Immediately Cole found himself on the score sheet. A quickly-taken goal-kick ended up with Carvalho advancing down the right flank. He slipped the ball inside to Anelka who played a perfect pass for the Englishman to latch on to, round the goalkeeper and slot home.

Moments later there was another chance for Anelka, but with space, he headed over when he should have converted Malouda's cross. It was to be his last action of the game, replaced by Franco Di Santo after an hour.

Hilario also got his first taste of 2008/9, replacing Cech as the solitary figure in the Chelsea half.

Di Santo made it two goals from two sub appearances, again scoring within moments of his introduction. It was another tap in, coming after Cole and stand-in captain Carvalho had advanced together down the left.

Carvalho was clearly enjoying himself. Redundant in defence, the Portuguese looked to get forward at every available opportunity, making the most of Chengdu's generous defending.

When he was forced back though, he very nearly gave away a penalty, as Wang Song turned one way and another, forcing Carvalho off balance. The Chelsea man lunged and appeared to make contact, but the referee waved away the Chinese side's penalty claims.

Normal service soon resumed though and Di Santo went close again, with only a flying one-handed save from Lan Yi denying him a second goal of the game.

Joe Cole managed to grab his second (pictured below) with nine minutes remaining, delightfully flicking Wright-Phillips' low cross through his legs and low into the corner.

Wright-Phillips then claimed a goal of his own as he inadvertently diverted Malouda's drive into the net with his back.

Five minutes from time Malouda cut inside but was felled on the edge of the area, presenting Deco with the opportunity to shoot from the free-kick.

Having practised in training, many watching on from the Chelsea bench would have anticipated a goal from the playmaker, but this time his effort crashed into the wall and over for a corner.

The final chance fell to Di Santo, and the youngster will wonder how he missed. Malouda again crossed low, and somehow the Argentine, managed to shoot into the ground and see the ball bounce over from the shortest of distances. Given the circumstances, it is not likely to haunt him.

All in all it was a simpler exercise than Scolari would have wished for, but another solid performance, matched with a clean sheet and an excess of goals can never be bad.

Next up is a Malaysian Select XI in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night, before a return to Europe for the Russian Railways Cup in Moscow next week.
