Frank Lampard has been speaking further about his new contract, and is looking forward to another five years at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder penned a new deal today (Wednesday) that will keep him at the club until 2013, which will represent 12 years of Chelsea service.

After months of speculation around his future, Lampard was relieved to complete the contract, and he believes he still has plenty to offer on the pitch.

'I have had seven fantastic years here so far, and now have the potential for another five fantastic years here,' said the 30-year-old.

Following the death of his mother Pat in April, Lampard had taken time away from the game to reassess his intentions, and had the close backing of family, friends and the club. It is something he will not forget.

'It has been a difficult period in my life in the last few months. Negotiations have been going on a long time with Chelsea. With what happened in my personal life I asked Chelsea for some time to get my head straight, which was understandable with what happened,' he explained.

'I spent a lot of time with my family, thought thoroughly about what I wanted to do and came back for pre-season. We have had a few conversations in the last couple of weeks since being back from China, and I am very happy that we have agreed.

'I am satisfied because I wanted to make sure I made the right decision. This is a big time for me in my career, I just turned 30, so this is my last major contract and I wanted it to be the right one.'

For the Manchester United game on April 26, the first after his mother's passing, the players celebrated Michael Ballack's opening goal by holding aloft a shirt bearing the family name.

'My team-mates have been a huge factor in everything anyway, particularly John Terry being captain and the fact we are very close. What my team-mates did for me at the end of last season, on the pitch against Manchester United and many things off the pitch is something I will never forget,' he reiterated.

'That was very special, and you don't want to leave those lads or lose those lads. They will always be close to my heart so I am very happy to stay amongst them.'

As part of a new-look squad under manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, Lampard, like John Terry before him this week, believes success is just around the corner, and has been impressed with the new additions.

'The message is already there, we are very serious and have been for the last few years, challenging for everything. That's obviously one of the reasons I want to stay here and people know that.

'When I look around at the way the club is run and the squad we have on the pitch and the management staff, I am very confident we are going to be successful,' Lampard said.

'I've always been a huge fan of Deco from afar, having played against him and watched him. He is a fantastic player, a dream to play with, and with his unselfish attitude and way he moves the ball and sees a pass.

'The early signs with the way we linked up in pre-season are that we are both happy with how it is going and he is going to add a lot to our midfield.'

The Portuguese was the first signing made since Scolari's appointment, and Lampard is encouraged at the start the Brazilian has made as Chelsea manager.

'I was impressed obviously with his record when he came here, you can't fail to be impressed,' he admitted.

'I was impressed with how we approached his first six weeks, with the way he speaks, the way he trains and the players have all reacted to that. I think he is going to be pivotal in bringing success to this club but my decision was about me and what I wanted to do, and that was to be here.'

His ambitions for the future are simple - trophies - and that starts with wrestling back this season's Premier League crown from Sir Alex Ferguson's men.

'I would like to win the title back. Two Premier League titles, particularly the first one [in 2005], were memories that I will never forget, and that's what I want to bring back here. Also, we would love to bring back that Champions League having tasted defeat so bitterly. It makes you want to go back and win it.'

Now he has another five years, there will be few betting against Lampard achieving his dreams.
