England and the Czech Republic shared four goals on Wednesday night, with five Chelsea men involved.

Second half substitute Joe Cole was England's hero as he scored a late equaliser (pictured), bundling home from inside the six-yard box past goalkeeper Petr Cech.

It was rough justice for Cech, who had made a string of world class saves in the first half to keep the home side at bay.

Captain John Terry played the full 90 minutes at the heart of Fabio Capello's defence, winning a crucial header in the build-up to Cole's goal.

Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole also featured, with the midfielder linking up well with Steven Gerrard (replaced by J Cole after an hour) in the centre of the park before being withdrawn with 10 minutes remaining.

The Czechs' first goal was cruel on the Blues' left-back, deflecting wickedly off his boot before looping over keeper David James into the net.

The only Chelsea man in the squads not to feature was Wayne Bridge, an unused substitute for England.

After the game, Terry was not overly impressed with England's performance.

'A little disappointed with the result and performance tonight,' he summarised. 'I think the fans will be disappointed with what they have seen, but we don't get any points for that game. It's important we get off to a good start in the qualifiers and push on from there.'

Elsewhere, Florent Malouda played 70 minutes in Gothenburg as France came out 3-2 winners against Sweden, creating a goal for Sidney Govou before being replaced by Alou Diarra.

Nicolas Anelka, goalscorer for Chelsea at the weekend, was an unused sub for Raymond Domenech's side.

Portugal were 5-0 winners at home to the Faroe Islands in Carlos Queiroz's first match since taking over from our own Luiz Felipe Scolari.

José Bosingwa was forced off in the first half, while Ricardo Carvalho and Deco were substituted on 54 minutes, the latter laying on one of the goals for team-mate Carlos Martins. Paulo Ferreira was unused.

Andriy Shevchenko was a half-time substitute for the Ukraine as they defeated fellow Euro 2012 hosts Poland 1-0 in Kiev.

On Tuesday night, there was international under-21 action, as Michael Mancienne played 90 minutes at the heart of England's defence, in their 2-1 victory over Slovenia. In Slovakia, Miroslav Stoch played 88 minutes as his side drew 2-2 with France.

In under-19 action, first year scholar Conor Clifford played the whole match for Ireland as they lost 1-0 to Ukraine in Tullamore.
