TALKING TRANSFERS
With the clock ticking on the summer transfer window, Luiz Felipe Scolari has been discussing comings and goings at Stamford Bridge.
Since the window opened, we have added José Bosingwa and Deco to the squad, while losing Steve Sidwell, Tal Ben-Haim, Claude Makelele and most recently, Claudio Pizarro, on loan to Werder Bremen.
Interest in Real Madrid forward Robinho is continuing, and Scolari offered his thoughts on his countryman.
'I don't train Robinho, never trained Robinho, but I like him because his style is different. And if he tries to dribble several times, he is a different player, and we need one player inside the pitch who can make a difference,' Scolari said.
'We have one team who can play one system, and to change this system we need different players. Now we have one player who maybe doesn't play on the wing, but when he plays on the wing it is good, Deco, he is good on the wing because it is different.
'Stop the ball, cross, that's his style and the one I want in Chelsea for many games, because if we have one system only, it is easy for the other teams.'
One man linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge is Andriy Shevchenko, and Scolari admitted that he is unsure whether the Ukrainian will still be here in September.
'I don't know, because yesterday Shevchenko was not at training. I think he was in Milan or I don't know, but today it was normal training and I didn't ask him about Milan, I just put him into training with Franco [Di Santo]. I don't ask him about anything, because he is here with Chelsea and training with Chelsea,' the manager said.
'I think he was in Milan yesterday after the game, because on Thursday there was no training and we received information that he was outside, because he was having a negotiation. But today he is here training as normal - I don't ask him what has happened because it is none of my business, my business is training.'
If Shevchenko does remain a Chelsea player though, Scolari believes he can still play a role in the team, particularly with a few injuries currently in the squad.
'He is one more player that I have in the team, one more option for me. It is one more player that I have, and now I have some players, Drogba, Essien, Bosingwa, Ballack with injuries.
'If I have some injuries then I need 24, 25 players because I need to build a team. I have two players in midfield as a centre of midfield, Ballack and Essien, and these players are injured. We have 26 now, so if I lose one or two players it is not a problem for me.'
With a new contract signed in the last two weeks, you can guarantee that Frank Lampard will be going nowhere, and Scolari sees the midfielder as a huge asset for Chelsea, despite the 30-year-old gaining little recognition from England fans.
'In today training he did very well, he was happy. It is normal in the life of a player or a coach for one time on one day to not play or train very well, it is normal. But in England you have very good players and Lampard is one of these players,' he explained.
'He knows very well his position at Chelsea and when it came to training, he came in happy every day and trained very well. He wants to take penalties, he wants to shoot and try to shoot better.'
Scolari finished with an anecdote on a conversation he shared with his number eight.
'I asked Frank today [Friday], I said "Are you sad, upset?" He said no. I said I know why he is upset, because he has a renewed contract and money, and now he needs to think about how to spend the money!'
