It became four games unbeaten for the ladies this weekend, and 10 points has allowed the team a flying start to the season.

This weekend saw the first blip in the Chelsea Ladies' season. Watching a two-goal lead disappear is never a good way to spend a Sunday, especially when you're in your home ground.

But it wasn't all doom-and-gloom from Imber Court, despite Birmingham's comeback, the score still remained a draw, meaning the point we took from the fixture kept us third in the table.

Now, although this is a frequently used term in football these days, it is not one particularly common in the realms of Chelsea, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

Eniola Aluko, Clare Rafferty and Brooke Chaplen all had chances to increase our lead, and with a bit of target practice, future games like Sunday's could quite easily finish 9-1 in Chelsea's favour.

Two slow starts in both halves saw the Ladies allow themselves to be put under pressure, but, all-in-all, it was pressure that they dealt with well, and, had it not been for several unneeded free-kicks, Birmingham would have had a much harder time sealing a draw.

Needless to say, with a two-goal lead lost, and the sight of numerous shots flying high, manager Steve Jones responded with passion from the touchline. A good sign some could say, it is certainly better to have a passionate leader than an indifferent one, after all.

Next the Ladies will host Bristol Academy for the third home game this season, and with Arsenal and Everton presiding first and second in the league respectively, a win will be vital to close the two-point gap to the top.

But with Bristol sitting in fifth place on equal points with Birmingham, that target practice must prove fruitful if three points are to be secured.

Nevertheless, our 10 points from four games is nothing to be laughed at, especially when you consider the changes that took place in the side over the summer. The arrival of new management and several new signings means the first few games will have seen the girls testing the waters.

'The new girls are settling in fine,' said midfielder Jess Smith.

'There has been a positive influence since they have joined and it has given the other girls a lift, because if players from such a high profile club like Arsenal want to play with us then it makes you feel that they believe in you.

'And they want to help us as well, so it has made everyone realise that we have got talent and it puts you in a positive mindset going into games.'

And with that testing of the waters reaping 15 goals from only 360 minutes of football, it seems a success so far.
