COLE RESCUES ENGLAND
Joe Cole sealed a 2-0 win for England on Saturday as John Terry captained the side to victory over Andorra.
Cole was a half-time substitute who made an immediate impact, volleying home his fellow Blue Frank Lampard's cross in the 49th minute.
England's stuttering triumph was sealed six minutes later when Cole tipped a Wayne Rooney pass over the line to score his second.
England, who also had Ashley Cole in the line-up, were in control during the 90 minutes against Andorra but failed to capitalise on their possession during the first half, until Cole joined the ranks after the break.
In the dying minutes of the game, Terry came close to increasing England's lead in a fixture that saw Andorra achieve only one shot on-target during the entire match.
Elsewhere in tonight's international fixtures, Ricardo Carvalho, Jose Bosingwa and Deco helped secure a 4-0 win for Portugal over Malta.
Classy Portugal's second half strikes from Simao Sabrosa and Nani built on a Brian Said own-goal in the first half.
Deco found Nani twice with two clever passes that allowed the double-goal scorer to find the net in the 71st and 78th minute. Paulo Ferreira was an unused sub.
A France side that started without Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda fell victims to a 3-1 Austria win. Marc Janko opened the scoring in Vienna for the home side before Andreas Ivanschitz's double put victory for the Austrians beyond doubt.
His second came on 73 minutes after France winger Sidney Govou reduced the deficit just after the hour. Anelka replaced Samir Nasri in the 79th minute but France could not escape Austria's first triumph over them in 38 years.
Branislav Ivanovic was an unused sub in Serbia's 2-0 home win over Faroe Islands.
