With the season now well underway, we catch up with the Blues currently plying their trade away from Stamford Bridge.

First up is Claudio Pizarro, who made 31 appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge last year, who is spending 2008/9 with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

The Peruvian international has enjoyed a great start to his second spell at Werder, scoring three times in his first five league games including important strikes against Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim.

After six games of the German season, Werder sit third in the table, though in Europe stuttered with a goalless draw at home to Anorthosis Famagusta, in which Pizarro also played.

Back in England, Ryan Bertrand is enjoying a second spell with Norwich City after impressing at Carrow Road last season.

The Norfolk club are 15th in the Championship table, and the attacking left-back has played seven of eight league games to date, and now faces a battle with returning captain Adam Drury for a place in the side.

Jimmy Smith will be with Sheffield Wednesday until January 2009, and has so far made one league start, and five from the bench for the Yorkshire club.

Jack Cork, player of the year at Scunthorpe last season, is now at Southampton, and once again in good form.

The versatile defender, who captained England Under 19s in the summer (as our picture shows), has so far been utilised as a centre-back, starting six times and making one sub appearance.

The youthful Saints currently lie 20th in the table, but are now three games unbeaten in the league.

Lee Sawyer, who turned 19 earlier this month, has had a week to remember following the birth of his daughter and a goal in a 3-0 win against Leyton Orient.

His goal followed a brace against Orient in the Football League Trophy, one of six appearances to date.

In League One, Shaun Cummings has helped promoted MK Dons to ninth place after eight games, under former Chelsea midfielder Roberto Di Matteo.

Shaun has featured in six of those, operating wide on the right, either at full-back or in midfield.

Tom Taiwo has recently returned to Stamford Bridge after a short spell in League Two with Port Vale.

Their manager Lee Sinnott was dismissed with the side languishing in the lower half of the table, and so Taiwo's loan deal was terminated.

He enjoyed his spell in the Potteries, making five appearances in all competitions, three of which were starts.

Finally, Israeli international Ben Sahar is still awaiting any first team involvement at Portsmouth. He has though been in fine fettle for his country, coming off the bench against Switzerland earlier this month to score one and create another, earning a 2-2 draw.
