Chelsea's fourth round Carling Cup tie with Burnley will be played on Wednesday 12 November.

The game, which takes place at Stamford Bridge, kicks off at 7.45pm and will be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs since 1983, when Burnley secured a 3-0 win over the Blues at Turf Moor.

The last time we played the side in a domestic cup was a 6-2 thumping of the Lancashire side in the fourth round of the 1978 FA Cup.

Previous to that, in another fourth round clash, Chelsea guaranteed progression in the FA Cup after a replay, once we had drawn 2-2 with Burnley at the Bridge.

We travelled to Turf Moor where we proceeded to beat them by two goals in a 3-1 victory during 1970.

But the most famous of our meetings is the tie which took place in the 1955/56 season, the year after Chelsea were declared league champions on our 50th anniversary.

The first fourth round draw Chelsea had with Burnley went on to produce an astonishing four replays.

Firstly the Blues drew 1-1 away before the same score followed at Stamford Bridge. And in the third match, there was a 2-2 stalemate away from home, followed by a goalless draw in west London.

But Chelsea finally progressed to the next round after beating Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor, putting an end to our longest cup tie ever, which stretched over 19 days and nine hours of play.
