Kick-off Chelsea
3 Flag Carew nods an early Villa free-kick just wide but the Norwegian had strayed well offside.
5 Shot Ballack, first time, sweetly strikes Bosingwa's pass from the edge of the area but Friedel saves well, low down and one-handed.
6 Shot Now it's Malouda's turn to be denied by the American, this time an angled drive pushed back into play but too far from Anelka.
9 Chance Lovely passes by Malouda and Lampard send Anelka away on the left but his squared ball is a foot too far ahead of Joe Cole.
17 Chance The Blues fail to capitalise on a Villa mix-up in the air, Lampard heading wide of the near-post from close range after Anelka chips the ball in.
20 CHELSEA GOAL Joe Cole smashes the ball right-footed inside the near post after Malouda picks a loose ball and attacks, Lampard then smartly picking out the scorer's run.
24 Woodwork Anelka, from 25 yards out, crashes a shot against the bar with Friedel well beaten.
28 Save Friedel parries Lampard's well-struck 25-yard free kick and the rebound arches agonisingly over Anelka's follow-up run.
42 CHELSEA GOAL Anelka breaks Friedel's one-man resistance, finishing from close range after the keeper first saves from Ballack and then from Anelka. An Ashley Cole overlap and cross starts it all.

Kick-off Aston Villa
56 Chelsea substitution In front of a watching Fabio Capello, Joe Cole is replaced by Kalou after failing to run off a painful ankle blow.
57 Chances Ballack's swerving 20-yarder is beaten out by a hurried Friedel. The attack continues and Lampard's ball to the back post just evades a sliding Malouda.
60 Escape A rare Villa attacks sees Agbonlahor work the ball away from Cech but his cross fails to pick out the waiting Carew.
63 Miss Ballack shoots over from just 10 yards out when Kalou contols a Terry header into his path. Pressure had stayed on after a corner.
67 Booked Cuellar for tugging Malouda's shirt.
69 Miss Di Santo, who had earlier seen a tame effort saved, cuts inside Shorey but blazes well off-target.
71 Villa substitution Harewood for Carew.
77 Booked Petrov for a late chop on Lampard.
82 Chelsea substitution Belletti for Malouda.
82 Shot A speculative Lampard effort is turned round the post by a messy Friedel save.

Comment Ivanovic comes into central defence for injured Alex, his home and Premier League debut. Joe Cole returns to start his 100th Premier League start for the club.Villa line-up to match Chelsea' formation, pitting their fastest strikers against our fastest defenders. The pass-and-move football of the opening half is outstanding as the away side are pinned in their own half. Di Santo makes his home and league debut as Anelka's half-time replacement. The second half is tighter but the chances keep coming and the home run never looks in danger as it is extended to 86 games. Liverpool's late winner at Man City keeps them tied on points but Chelsea remain top.
