LAMPS HELPS LAUNCH PERFECT 10
Frank Lampard has spent time recently reflecting on his years at Stamford Bridge - and his current life compares very favourably indeed.
It's Lampard's involvement in a new book - Chelsea's Perfect 10 - that has had the player thinking. He is one of the names selected and interviewed by author Neil Barnett in a collection of chapters on eight of the club's all-time outfield greats; two goalkeepers sharing one place; and a player already well on his way to greatness.
Some of those chosen were at the launch of Chelsea's Perfect 10 this week at Stamford Bridge and it was there Lampard spoke about the past and the present.
'The difference between the club now and when I joined is huge,' he said.
'Looking back on how the club has progressed a million miles, the players I've played with and the games along the way, it has been exciting to sit down and go back over it for this book.
'The first couple of years were difficult at times but since then, the new Abramovich era and the success we've had have been very enjoyable.'
In his dedicated chapter, Lampard explains his theories on how he has been able to progress from expensive, better-than-average new signing back in 2001 to a record-breaking, trophy-winning world class performer who just keeps on improving.
He also explains the simple method José Mourinho deployed to turn a good player into a winner and what makes Frank angry.
'It rankled with me when people said I didn't mean it,' he says of his physics-defying finish in Barcelona in 2006. 'That's my best Chelsea goal because of the angle, the accuracy and if I did that one a thousand times again I probably wouldn't score it.'
Nowadays, Frank is simply enthused by the possibilities the current campaign holds as he explained at the book launch.
'Last season was a bit problematic. We changed the manager mid-season, there were one or two problems along the way, that didn't help, but we dug in and had a fantastic season without quite winning anything.
'This season we have refocused and there is a real freshness about us. We are trying to play good football and we are scoring goals.
'The manager is settled whereas last season there was always speculation about the future. Bosingwa and Deco have been fantastic. We've always had a strong squad but at the moment it is really ticking, there is something about us.
'There are memories a little bit of the first season when we won the league. We had a patch in that season when we were playing really well, playing flowing football, and at the moment we are doing that - but it is very important we keep up our standards. We are working hard for each other and if we keep doing that, we have a great chance.'
Lampard memories from the 2004/5 season also feature in Chelsea's Perfect 10. Other players who gave fresh interviews to Neil Barnett, who in over 20 years as an in-house reporter has asked more questions to more Chelsea players than anyone on the planet, are Petr Cech and Peter Bonetti (pictured below).

The legend between the posts in the 60s and 70s came face-to-face this week with the current legend in goal, as they had done for the first time on Chelsea TV when Cech had just joined, another memory relived in the book.
Back up-to-date at the launch, Cech told Chelsea TV: 'I am proud to be among these players because I have been here only five years. When I arrived, everyone was talking about Peter Bonetti.
'I soon realised he is an absolute legend at this club and Neil told me a lot about his goalkeeping and I watched things on Chelsea TV and got to know the players from the past. If you see the number of games Peter played and the number of clean sheets, it's amazing. To be there in the same chapter is a great honour.'
Kerry Dixon, another featured and at the launch, asked to be introduced for the first time to a passing Salomon Kalou, just 169 behind in the Chelsea goal scoring stakes. The late, great Peter Osgood was represented by his widow Lyn.
In all, 50 years of the club's history are covered between the covers - from Jimmy Greaves through to rising star Joe Cole.
