CECH: A CORNER COST US
After conceding our first goal from a corner since Bacary Sagna's opener for Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last season, Petr Cech was obviously disappointed.
The Chelsea keeper, who made several fantastic saves to keep the Blues in the game during the first 45 minutes, was more perplexed by the fact we'd thrown away an opportunity to progress in the competition, rather than our overall performance last night.
'I am disappointed because we almost got the qualification, which is what we wanted, because we conceded in the final minutes,' explained Cech.
'We didn't play well in the first half and we improved in the second half. We scored a goal and I thought it was going to be over because we defended well.
'It is a pity that in the end we conceded from a corner, after we had dealt with all the freekicks well. In the end a corner cost us.'
Bordeaux were a different side to the one who travelled to the Bridge back in September, and attacked from the offset, forcing Cech into his first save only six minutes in.
'They had nothing to lose, they knew that if they didn't get any points they would be out of the competition and that is why they started well and created chances.
'But fortunately for me, I saw everything that happened and the whole flight of the ball for their shots and I was in a good position to close to the angles.
'So I was happy with the way I played, but in the end I was disappointed having conceded a goal, especially from a corner.
'But they put such a big effort into the game and they played well, so maybe they deserved something, and in the end they got it.'
Yesterday's draw means Chelsea sit second in Group A, one point behind Roma and one in front of Bordeaux.
This means qualification to the next round of the European competition will go down to the last game of the group stages, when we host Cluj next month.
'We need to win, we have to score a goal in that game,' said Cech.
'But at our home stadium we have an authority so I am not afraid that we will lose.
'Away from home you have to score goals also, and in Cluj we didn't manage to score a goal, there was a problem, and in Bordeaux, although we scored a goal, we conceded, and the result against Roma I don't even count, because it can happen to anyone, even though we had a good game.
'But with a home win we are there, so this is still the positive point from all this,' he added.
