VAT REDUCTION ON TICKETS AND MEGASTORE GOODS

Chelsea Football Club will be introducing the 2.5% reduction in Value Added Tax on non-corporate match day tickets and Megastore purchases from tomorrow (Monday).

Chelsea has reviewed the market and decided the best course of action regarding VAT is to pass the discount on these items to the consumer immediately.

Listed below are the re-calculated match day ticket prices for the remainder of the 2008-9 season.

Regarding season tickets, because the purchase has already taken place there will not be a retrospective discount. When the season ticket is renewed in May 2009 Chelsea fans will only pay 15% VAT for the whole of the 2009-10 season even though VAT will go back up to 17.5% in December 2009.

This will ensure that season ticket holders also benefit from the discount.

When purchasing items in the Megastore the reduction in VAT will be shown on the till receipts.

Certain items are zero-rated for VAT such as childrenswear, babywear, selected confectionery and books. The match day programme and Chelsea magazine are also zero rated for VAT and therefore their price will remain the same.

The reduction will also be introduced for the relevant online purchases via our partner Kitbag.

Prices of other Chelsea products are currently under review and news about these will follow shortly.

Please remember that the reduction is NOT 2.5 pence in the pound as has been reported in some media. It is a 2.5% reduction on the 17.5% VAT rate, so the VAT rate is now 15%.

For example on a £10 purchase under the old 17.5% rate the consumer would pay £1.75 in VAT, making a total of £11.75. Under the new 15% rate, the same £10 purchase would cost £11.50.
