Southend United from League One will be Chelsea's opponents in the third round of this season's FA Cup.

The match will be played at Stamford Bridge on the weekend of 3rd and 4th January.

Southend, managed by Steve Tilson are currently 11th in their division and number former Chelsea striker Paul Furlong in their squad although the 40-year-old has not featured since September. Chelsea Academy product Anthony Grant is a more regular appearance maker.

The clubs have met just twice before in competitive fixtures.

In 1913 Chelsea won 5-2 at home in an FA Cup match. In 1972 in the FA Cup, we beat the Essex side 1-0 away. 

Southend beat Luton 3-1 at home in the previous round.
