Frank Lampard was the highest-placed Chelsea player in the voting for this year's European Footballer of the Year award.

The Chelsea vice-captain came in at 15th in a poll of 96 journalists from all over the world, organised by France Football magazine.

Michael Ballack was joint 19th in the vote for the long-running Balon d'Or award with Didier Drogba joint 21st.

The winner was Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo with Bareclona's Lionel Messi second and Liverpool's Fernando Torres third.

No player has ever won the award as a Chelsea player but former Blues Andriy Shevchenko (2004), George Weah (1995) and Ruud Gullit (1987) were all winners while with AC Milan, while Lampard finished second in 2005.
