HALF TERM INTERNATIONAL ROUND UP
With the international fixture calendar in the middle of a rare break from action, the time is right to round up the impressively extensive involvement of Chelsea first team, reserve and youth team players with their countries so far this season.
Matches went on into mid-December with reserve midfielder Gaël Kakuta the last to finish with France Under 18s. Most will be called upon next by their nations in February.
Salomon Kalou's August spent at the Olympics ensures he is currently our highest international appearance maker this campaign but he is tied at the top as far goals are concerned. Joe Cole joins the Ivorian on three goals despite playing less than a third of Kalou's minutes on the pitch.
Looking at career statistics, Michael Ballack is now just 11 games off his 100th cap for Germany and Ricardo Carvalho needs one for a half-century for Portugal. Two more caps will take John Terry to the same milestone for England. The captain will also have overtaken William Gallas to go clear as Chelsea's third most capped player while at the club. Marcel Desailly and Frank stand clear ahead.
