TERRY: WE DID EVERYTHING
Speaking after last night's Champions League exit, John Terry demonstrated that very little has changed in the players' views since the final whistle.
The captain, like many of his team-mates was incensed that we had not been awarded at least one penalty by referee Tom Henning Øvrebø after a string of appeals.
The 28-year-old believes we had done enough across the two legs against Barcelona to merit progression to the Champions League Final.
'We get drawn against Barcelona, one of the best footballing sides in the world. We know over two legs they are going to have more possession, but possession doesn't win games,' said the defender.
'There are going to be people saying Barcelona deserved to go through. We did exactly what we needed to. It's disappointing. We had a game plan coming into both of these games, did what the manager asked of us and are not going through because of a bad refereeing decision.'
There were a number of decisions that went against us, notably for fouls on Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda, and handballs against Gerard Piqué and Samuel Eto'o in the closing stages.
'The first two you might not give, the third one he should be under all sorts of pressure to give one. The third one where Nico puts it round Piqué and he slams it down with his hand, if he can't see that from five yards…
'We saw decisions [on Tuesday] where Darren Fletcher misses the Final now because of a bad decision,' he said, referring to the Manchester United midfielder's red card against Arsenal.
We still have the FA Cup Final against Everton as a realistic source of silverware this season, but Terry admits that is unlikely to be of consolation when he sees Barcelona going head-to-head with Manchester United in Rome on May 27.
'I am not sure, we will be watching that Final three days before and thinking we should have been there. We are delighted to be in an FA Cup Final and can prepare ourselves for that,' he said.
'We still have to make sure we secure third place, if we go to Arsenal and win it's more or less over. We want to be in this competition again next year.'
