Frank Lampard insists it was just a matter of time before Chelsea's quality shone through on Saturday afternoon.

After going 1-0 down following Louis Saha's 25-second opener, the Blues rallied to eventually run-out 2-1 winners, and the winning goalscorer never had any doubt in his side's ability to secure another FA Cup crown.

'It was a sloppy goal to give away but after that the desire was there,' Lampard recounted. 'The quality was there and we have shown that for the last five months without a doubt.

'The quality of us came through, Everton played very well and they have quality players but at the end of the day the hard work we put in on a difficult pitch meant we got the ball about, got the second goal and went on to win the game.

'We always believed in ourselves and straight after the first goal we started to play, we moved the ball and dominated the game.

'Good teams should be able to do that. We did it against Arsenal in the semi-final and at other times in the season. It always knocks you back to go 1-0 down but in a way it also kicks you into gear.'

It was yet another big goal from a big player as Lampard smashed Chelsea into the lead deep into the second half, despite only just finding his feet after slipping on Wembley's surface.

'I was looking to shoot with my right foot,' explained our vice-captain who now has netted 100 times over the past five seasons, 'but I cut back inside and took a chance with my left. The keeper tried to make a save but to see it go in was a nice feeling.'

With the ball hitting the net, Lampard made his way to the corner flag to show his appreciation for an important man in his life.

'The celebration was for my dad because my dad scored against Everton and he ran around the corner flag.

'It was a semi-final but it was an important goal in his career and he talked to us about it growing up. So it was just a little thing for my dad.

'FA Cup winning goals are very special, as a player you want to score big goals, I have scored regularly for the last couple of years now but it is the big ones that stick in your mind.

'Personally it is great to score the winning goal, but as a group and a team and the club itself, we deserved this.

'I take nothing away from Everton, they played very well, but with the team that we have had, the hard work we have put in and how close we got to the Champions League Final, we had to win the FA Cup.'

So that's another FA Cup in Chelsea's history, making it five altogether, and Lampard's now ready to build on this year's campaign.

'In the league it is a shame we didn't start showing our quality earlier this season and it is a shame with the circumstances of the semi-final in the Champions League, but to win the FA Cup is always a great achievement and now we look forward to next year.'
