IT'S BEEN TOO LONG
John Terry had to wait two years before lifting the FA Cup trophy once more, and although that run may seem a million miles away from most clubs, he doesn't want to wait that long again.
With the Cup now back at its rightful home in west London, Terry was obviously ecstatic, but he vowed to try his hardest to keep the historic competition's iconic symbol at Stamford Bridge.
'It has been two years now since we've won trophies and it has been too long, it has been hard to see the likes of Man United lifting these sorts of trophies, so it is great to get it back and we'll try our hardest to keep it,' said Terry.
There can be no doubt Terry has sealed himself in the Chelsea history books, even before his second FA Cup title was won, but it was down to another Chelsea legend to secure the victory.
As is so often with Frank Lampard, it was our vice-captain who rose to the challenge of scoring the winning goal, crisply hitting a left-footed shot beyond Tim Howard's reach.
'It was a great goal from Lampsy,' added Terry, 'he has been popping up with them all season and it's fantastic. You always know he will produce something great in the big games.'
But Cup domination would not have been possible if it wasn't for the whole team's performances throughout the campaign, and there was one man in particular who kept Chelsea in the running.
The FA Cup Final was the end to another major season for Petr Cech, in which he played in all but one of our FA Cup games, giving our keeper a perfect view of the those performances.
'I love playing in the FA Cup so I am delighted to have won it,' exclaimed Cech, 'and altogether this season has been hugely positive in many ways.
'We showed huge character after the change of the manager and the whole Champions League campaign has been absolutely amazing as well.
'We beat Juventus, we beat Liverpool and we never lost to Barcelona, although it was unfortunate not to go to Rome, and now we have won the FA Cup, so the second stage of the season has been very positive.'
But Cech knows the run of home draws in the middle of our campaign was enough to prevent Chelsea winning another league title.
'Over the whole season, we had a slow December and January, in that time we lost our trophies because it made the gap between Man United which we couldn't close.
'Last season it was only goal difference which made a difference; this season unfortunately there was a period when we didn't play well. If in December and January we had played well then maybe April and March would have been different.
'But in terms of the Champions League, we were only a few seconds away from testing Man United in the final. So we wanted to win the FA Cup and finish the season on a high and that's what we did.'
Now it's time to look ahead to next season and with a new manager appointed Chelsea's prospects are all the more exciting, but Cech insists he won't have too many changes to make.
'He will find a fantastic group of players who always want to work hard and give everything for each other. He will find a lot of quality in the dressing room.'
