WINS ALL ROUND IN EUROPEAN QUALIFYING
John Terry, Ashley Cole and goalscorer Frank Lampard all played 90 minutes as England ran out comfortable winners in Kazakhstan.
Lampard fired home England's fourth and final goal from the penalty spot in the final 15 minutes, while the two defenders both played their part in a clean sheet 3,500 miles from home. Playing his 70th England game, it was the midfielder's 16th goal.
The World Cup qualifier didn't look like it would be so straightforward though as England nearly fell behind in the opening minute, and would have done if Terry had not hacked the ball away from his own goal line after former Blue Glen Johnson had been robbed of possession on the England right.
After a nervy spell in which the Kazakhs had a goal ruled out for offside, England took control and went in at half-time 2-0 up thanks to goals from Gareth Barry and Emile Heskey.
Half-time sub Shaun Wright-Phillips combined with Johnson to create England's third, finished off at the second attempt by Wayne Rooney.
Miroslav Stoch further enhanced his growing reputation at international level by netting his first goal for Slovakia in their 7-0 win over San Marino. The young winger was also booked in the first half.
There were three Chelsea players in the Portugal starting line-up that earned a late win in Albania, defender Bruno Alves scoring the winner in injury time. They remain four points behind second-placed Hungary in their qualifying group.
From a Blues point of view, José Bosingwa and Deco played the full 90 minutes in their usual positions, while Ricardo Carvalho was sacrificed with 15 minutes remaining as Carlos Queiroz's men chased victory in Tirana.
Branislav Ivanovic was a part of the Serbia side that defeated Austria 1-0 at home, courtesy of an early penalty, starting alongside Nemanja Vidic in the centre of defence. They remain on track for South Africa 2010.
At Under 19 level, Dutch youngsters Jeffrey Bruma and Patrick van Aanholt will need a win against Russia on Tuesday if they are to guarantee progression past their European Championship qualifying group. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw against Slovenia, in Slovenia on Saturday.
