UNDER 21S MAKE PROGRESS
England Under 21s, for whom Michael Mancienne was suspended, ensured their place in the semi-finals of the European Championships by beating Spain on Thursday evening.
Mancienne was sent-off in the opening match versus Finland and his place in central defence went to Man City's Nedum Onuoha. With City's Micah Richards also overcoming a first game injury to play against Spain, it remains to be seen whether coach Stuart Pearce will restore the Chelsea defender for the final group stage game against Germany on Monday.
England Under 21s beat Spain 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Fraizer Campbell and James Milner, who had a first-half penalty saved. Bojan, the striker who played against Chelsea for Barcelona recently, was in the beaten side.
The semi-finals of the Sweden-hosted tournament are next Friday.
