DROGBA EXTENDS
Didier Drogba has signed a new three-year contract, which will keep him at the club until 2012.
The striker, 31, was in excellent form at the end of last season, heading home the equaliser in our FA Cup Final win over Everton in May.
That was his 94th goal in Chelsea colours, taking him ninth in our all-time list of top goalscorers. Drogba returned in pre-season with another two strikes on our US Tour, against Inter and AC Milan, and is now looking forward to an exciting season at Stamford Bridge.
'I have decided to extend my contract with Chelsea for two extra years and I am very happy and proud to continue to wear the blue of Chelsea until then,' said the 31-year-old Ivorian international.
'I love the club, I feel good here and I want to continue to win titles with them.
'I stay because I am ambitious to pick up lots more trophies, regain the Premier League title, win cups, it's for this that I have extended my time at Chelsea.
'But my number one objective is to win the Champions League. I am convinced that this year we can go to the end and finally lift this trophy.
'I'd like to take advantage of this message to thank the Chelsea supporters who have always encouraged me with fervour as well as all my fans.'
Despite an injury-hit campaign, Drogba still managed to score 14 times last season, and has now played 216 times for the club.
