John Terry, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Michael Essien and Didier Drogba are all in the shortlist for Fifa World Player 2009.

It's the third year in a row Chelsea has had five representatives in the shortlist for the award.

As voting is undertaken by the coach and captain of each country's side, with individuals not allowed to vote for players from their own nation, it means that not only are Terry, Drogba and Ballack nominated, they also have the responsibility of placing a vote.

At the beginning of December, Fifa will announce the names of the final three, the winners will then be revealed in Zurich on Monday 21 December.

'I am happy because this means I have on my hands very good players and a very good team,' commented Carlo Ancelotti on the news. 'I hope that one of these five can win. It will be difficult but I hope.'

The best past placing of a Chelsea player was Lampard when he finished second in 2005. In 2007 Drogba was fourth.
