ATLETICO: CHELSEA ARE FEARSOME
Quique Sanchez Flores, the new Atletico coach who is looking to rebuild the Rojiblancos' flagging season, is hoping the atmosphere in the stadium tonight (Tuesday) could overcome a team he admires.
In his two matches since taking over, the former Valencia and Benfica boss has won a cup match and lost in the league. He now faces the stern test of Chelsea in the Champions League followed by the Madrid derby at the weekend.
'Chelsea has many virtues and we're correcting mistakes,' Flores said ahead the first of those challenges.
'In two encounters, we suffered a bit in only 45 minutes, so I think that we're getting better and better. Getting back to Chelsea, they're a fearsome team because of everything.
'They have direct play, play between the lines, a short game, good play on the wings and are tough defensively. We have to be at 100 per cent to win. We have to represent this club well, and together with the supporters, create a complicated atmosphere for Chelsea.'
He added: 'They [Chelsea and Real Madrid] are two opponents who are going to demand a lot out of us, but we have chances to win both. The match against Chelsea could really give us a lot and take away just a little. We have to be optimistic and positive. We have to face them with confidence.'
Atlético currently lie fourth in Champions League group D but level on points with third place APOEL. Porto in second are on six points. Third place qualifies for the new Europa League.
