MIKEL MAKES THE WORLD CUP
After a big turnaround at the top of their qualification group, Nigeria, with John Mikel Obi in their side, will contest the World Cup in South Africa next summer.
The Super Eagles duly secured the win they needed on Saturday to stand any chance of going through, 3-2 away to Kenya, but still needed leaders Tunisia to lose.
A 1-0 defeat for the north African nation away in Mozambique made that a reality so Nigeria win the group by one point.
Mikel played the full 90 minutes of the win in Kenya. Obefami Martins with two goals and Ayegbeni Yakubu were the scorers, the winner coming in the 83rd minute, the same minute that Tunisia conceded in. It was Mikel's first competitive football in seven weeks after injuring his ankle in the defeat at Wigan.
Nigeria's fourth appearance in the World Cup Finals means all Chelsea's four African players will be in South Africa.
Neither Didier Drogba nor Salomon Kalou were involved in Ivory Coast's 3-0 win over Guinea. Michael Essien's Ghana play Mali tomorrow (Sunday).
