MORE KAKUTA, BORINI AND MATIC IN RESERVES
Two days after making first team debuts, Nemanja Matic and Gael Kakuta can be seen in action live on Chelsea TV tonight (Monday).
Also continuing on from his sub appearance on Saturday is Fabio Borini (pictured). All three players start for the reserves in a home game at Brentford FC.
In a young but strong looking line-up selected by Steve Holland, there is also a place for Jeffrey Bruma, fresh from Dutch Under 21 success, and Sam Hutchinson.
Hutchinson will be playing his first football since the early October when he suffered injury away to Arsenal's reserves.
Another returning from a recent Under 21 call-up is midfielder Conor Clifford who was given his second cap at that level by the Republic of Ireland last week.
Milan Lalkovic, who scored the equaliser in an exciting 3-3 draw at home to Fulham in the last outing, also starts tonight.
Tonight's opponents are Birmingham who have not won this season. Their seven games have yielded three draws.
They have a new coach, Malky Thomson, choosing the side for the first time and he includes former Middlebrough defender Franck Queudrue.
'I'm looking forward to the game as we've had a decent run of performances of late, says Chelsea reserve team manager Steve Holland.
'From the last three games, West Ham was a good performance and a good result, Stoke was a good performance and a disappointing result, and against Fulham, given the age of the team, I was very happy.
'The exciting part is that we can play Gael Kakuta again. Although he was eligible for the Fulham game he was away on international duty, so we are looking forward to getting him going again.
'I have worked with him a lot in training and the ultimate aim is to transfer that work into the matches. He has missed a bit and that will have hindered his development so we will see what he can produce now. Sam Hutchinson playing is also good.'
Borini played his first Italy Under 21 games, a 2-0 defeat to Hungary and a 4-0 win against Luxembourg during the international break.
'Unfortunately he didn't get on the scoresheet,' comments his reserve manager, 'but he was playing with Serie A players who are playing week in, week out, which can only be good for his development. He played alongside Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan in one of those games, which can only be good for him.'
While Birmingham prop up the table, Chelsea are currently fourth in the Barclays Premier Reserve League South, five points behind leaders Aston Villa.
