Chelsea mascot Stamford the Lion was a special guest on Capital FM this week following the announcement he'll be running the London Marathon.

Our feline friend met Johnny Vaughan and Lisa Snowden on their breakfast show to help push awareness of his bid to take part in the country's most famous run, helping raise money for our national charity partner Help a London Child.

Founded by Chelsea life president Lord Richard Attenborough in 1975, Help a London Child provides practical and lasting support to thousands of youngsters living in the capital.

'We help children who live below the poverty live, children who are disadvantaged, and we raise money with this small charity which directly helps all the capital's needy, of which there are literally millions,' said Vaughan, a massive Chelsea fan.

'It's a proud thing for London's number one radio station to be able to team up with London's number one football club.

'Stamford is going to be suffering for about five hours so that so many children around London will not be suffering for much longer, thanks Stamford,' added Vaughan.

Stamford has been given some goods to help with the marathon by club sponsors adidas, who have provided a personal training device called a miCoach and some top-end adiStar running shoes.

'You've got to support Stamford, he's doing an amazing thing,' said Snowden. 'A marathon is such a tough thing to do and it's so easy to get online and sponsor him.'
