Frank Lampard went into Saturday's match anticipating it might be a good day for him and his team, although it is unlikely he was expecting it to be quite so good.

In helping Chelsea to equal our best top-flight wins of all time, matching 7-1 victories over Leeds in 1935 and West Brom in 1960, the midfielder leapt from scoring 17 goals to 21 for the season - maintaining the 20-a-season average of his previous five campaigns.

Carlo Ancelotti said beforehand that he wouldn't be sure the team was over its drop in form until it did the business against Aston Villa, but Lampard was confident the corner had been turned.

'I had a good feeling before the game,' reports four-goal Frank.

'I had scored against Portsmouth midweek and the team had played well in that game and now against Villa, this was us at our best. We showed what we are all about with our passing and movement. 7-1 is a strong result but we deserved it with the way we played.

'It was one of those days when the ball dropped for me and it is nice to do it against a top team like Villa but more than anything, it was good just to be part of a great performance.'

Reaching a personal goal milestone - netting his 151st for the club to take him to third in the all-time Chelsea marksman list ahead of Roy Bentley and Peter Osgood - is naturally a moment of immense significance for Lampard.

'I wanted to get there this season and Peter Osgood and Roy Bentley are two absolute legends of Chelsea history.I didn't expect to actually go past them on Saturday but I am very proud to do so and I will try to keep motoring on and scoring important goals.

'I am very ambitious and try to drive myself on week in, week out but it is not possible to score that amount of goals unless you have good players putting some of them on a plate for you. I have certainly had that at Chelsea so I am very fortunate.

'The first half against Villa was a bit tight,' he acknowledges. 'I think we deserved to be in the lead at half time and the pressure Villa tried to put on us in that first half maybe told.

'We know they are a dangerous team that can score at any moment and at 2-1 we were determined to score a third goal and once we got that, the confidence grew and grew. We moved the ball round and our passing and movement was fantastic.'

Now it is all eyes on Old Trafford next Saturday, Chelsea leading up to it with a clear week at Cobham while Manchester United are in Champions League action in Germany on Tuesday.

'Our belief and confidence is back but we have to be very wary of what happened when we lost a little bit of what we are all about recently,' Lampard warns.

'This week our training is very important. Our focus and preparation has to be right and if we can get our attitude right then we have the players we know can go to Man United and get a result, but we have to be very sure this week in how we prepare for the game.

'We are going there with confidence and who doesn't want to be involved in that kind of show?'
