YOUTH TOURNAMENT KICKZ OFF AT COBHAM
Boys and girls from Chelsea's Kickz programmes hosted three similar teams from Manchester, Merseyside and Portsmouth at our Cobham training ground this week.
Chelsea, represented by our Kensington and Chelsea Kickz squad, came up against Manchester United, a combined Liverpool/Everton and Portsmouth side, playing a series of group games with the top two reaching the Final - the Chelsea boys emerging victorious after a penalty shootout victory against the Merseysiders, and the girls winning their Final 4-0.
Michael Cole, Chelsea's community development manager was delighted with how the day went.
'Everyone's had a great day and all the young people were a real credit to their clubs,' he said. 'The football has been high quality and the attitude of everyone has been extremely positive.'
The Kickz programme uses the power of football to build safer, stronger communities by harnessing young people's potential. It combines football coaching with a range of educational workshops and opportunities to gain qualifications and increase employability.
Kickz holds the National Sports Industry Award for 'Best Community Programme' and is making significant contributions to reducing crime by engaging vulnerable young people and targeting the most deprived areas with high incidences of anti-social behaviour.
