In the latest instalment of our Legends series in conjunction with Chelsea TV the Official Chelsea Website takes a look at one of the club's most iconic strikers…

Kerry Dixon was a pin-up boy in the early Eighties. A natural striker; he was a true Chelsea man who stuck with the club throughout the ups-and-downs of the decade, turning down moves to the likes of Arsenal because of his dedication to the Blues.

He arrived from Reading and formed part of John Neal's rejuvenated Chelsea side. He would go on to score 193 goals in 420 games, becoming the club's second highest goalscorer.

He netted twice in his home debut and would go on to score a further 32 goals that first campaign including a hat-trick as we sealed promotion with a 5-0 win over Leeds that season.

At the start of the next season he scored what he believes to be the most important goal of his career, as he discusses in the interview which can be viewed here:

He shared the Golden Boot with Gary Lineker at the end of that campaign, after scoring 24 League goals, while Chelsea finished sixth.

By now Dixon was adored in the stands, and by our then-owner Ken Bates. After John Neal made way for John Hollins to become Chelsea manager, Bates blocked a move for Dixon to Arsenal, as he explains in the video.

Chelsea would be relegated and promoted once more before Dixon's time at the club came to an end and in our first season back in the top flight he helped us to a fifth-place finish in top-flight football, thanks to an impressive 26 goals, including a hat-trick in the final game of the season against Millwall.

These days Dixon is a regular at Stamford Bridge and on Chelsea TV, where he co-hosts a weekly show.

Chelsea TV's 'Legends' is a series of interviews with some of the Blues' most influential players and they are shown regularly. You can also watch them on Chelsea TV Online.
