There may be a long wait until the beginnings of the new Women's Super League in March but Chelsea Ladies are still keeping themselves busy.

Training for the new league begins this month, giving the Ladies plenty of time to prepare for the FA's brain child in women's football.

Chelsea will be one of eight sides in the League, where we'll face opposition from Arsenal, Birmingham City, Bristol Academy, Doncaster Rover Belles, Everton, OOH Lincoln and Liverpool.

Ladies manager Matthew Beard has made several new signings. New Zealand captain Hayley Moorwood joins Welsh internationals Helen Lander and Emma Plewa, as well as former Millwall centre-back Sinead Boyer.

Moorwood, who's a former Sportswoman of the Year in Auckland, captained her nation through the 2007 Women's World Cup and the 2008 Olympics.

Lander joins Chelsea from Arsenal, where she won two League titles and the 2009 FA Cup, after beginning her career as a forward with Watford Ladies. Lander is a regular in Wales' senior side and also represented England at Under 23 level.

Plewa played for Bristol Academy from the age of 16 and after four years there now joins Chelsea aged 20. The forward currently plays for the Welsh senior side having represented her nation at Under 19 level.

Boyer departed Millwall to join Chelsea, having already played for Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic, where she was 2007 FA Cup runner-up. Strong in the air and in a tackle, the centre-half will be a great addition to Chelsea's back line.

Fixtures for the new league are yet to be announced, but there will be a new website set up dedicated to it, with separate profiles for every club involved.

The idea behind the League is for each club to have up to four full-time professionals to supplement their existing squads and in turn raise the standard of women's football in England.

Running from March to August, the League boasts a clear distinction from the men's game. It is also hoped this will pull in larger audiences and television coverage through out the summer months.

'It's imperative that we as a football club are at the top end of ladies football,' said Chelsea Ladies' director of football Shaun Gore.

'It was a difficult process getting into the League but we have been more and more successful as the seasons have gone by and we finished third last year, so it was important we were in the new Women's Super League.

'Now we're just determined to have a team that competes and hopefully knocks Arsenal off the top spot.

'We have a great management team and everything is in place. We are moving to Tooting and Mitcham, which is more central for Chelsea fans, so we're also hoping to draw more people in to the games.

'So now we just want to get out there and succeed,' added Gore.
