Carlo Ancelotti reports that John Terry and Frank Lampard are progressing in their race to be fit for Saturday's game at West Ham.

Both the Chelsea captain and vice-captain were ruled out of participation in the current round of international games which are completed tonight (Tuesday), but with the chance to assess the players at Cobham this week Ancelotti expects fitness tests to be made close to the game.

'Lampard had surgery on Tuesday and I think that he will start to train this week. I don't know when but we will see how he trains and we will take a decision for the game against West Ham.

'Terry didn't have surgery but he used the last week to improve his hamstring. He will start to train with the squad this week, maybe Tuesday, and I think he will be able to play against West Ham.'

Speaking at speaking at the launch of his autobiography, The Beautiful Games of an Ordinary Genius, Ancelotti talked of a relationship with the England national team set-up in which all information is shared about his players' physical condition.

He also discussed criticism in the English media and from fans for his compatriot Fabio Capello following England's unremarkable showing at the World Cup.

'I have a lot of experience in Italy that if you win, you are a good guy and if you lose you are a poor guy.

'I was surprised because before the World Cup, Capello was a god and now [people say] he is not good enough to manage the national team.

'I think that Capello is a fantastic coach and he is able to manage the national team and will show this in the future. He won a lot of titles in Italy and in Spain and he will do his best in England.

'He was good before the World Cup and during the World Cup the England team didn't play good football but there was a lot of expectation and it can happen. They had a problem physically because their most important player for this competition which was [Wayne] Rooney was not fit 100 per cent.'
