TERRY IN, LAMPARD OUT
Carlo Ancelotti has ruled Frank Lampard out of Saturday's trip to West Ham, but John Terry will return to captain the side at Upton Park.
Both players missed England's international fixtures over the past week through injury, but while Terry's gluteal problem has now healed, Lampard's recovery from hernia surgery requires more time.
'We don't have a lot of of problems, the players involved in internationals are fit, they don't have a problem,' Ancelotti confirmed. 'John Terry is available to play tomorrow, Lampard needs to have more time to rest. He trained with us this week and is recovering well but we need more time. Maybe he will be involved in the next game in the Champions League, not tomorrow.
'These players needed to have a rest because they had a problem, Terry resolved this problem during these two weeks, Lampard after surgery did very well I think because in seven days he was able to train but obviously we want to give him more time to recover 100 percent. '
The midfielder's absence leaves the manager with a decision to make regarding his replacement, it will be either of his new summer signings, Yossi Benayoun or Ramires. His only other selection issue is whether to pick Florent Malouda, a midweek goalscorer for France, or Salomon Kalou on the left of the front three.
Also in the squad will be Gael Kakuta, the Uefa Under 19 European Championship Golden Ball winner, who Ancelotti believes must be considered a part of the first team squad.
'He will be involved tomorrow in the game. Now he is first team, he will have the same opportunity as the other players and he deserves to play because he trained well, he is focused and concentrated,' explained the Italian. 'He will play and we now have to consider him not a young player but a player in the first team.'
Our opposition have had a tough start to the campaign under new manager and former Chelsea man Avram Grant, with no points from their opening three games. Despite the stutter, Ancelotti does not expect the Hammers to be languishing for too long.
'I think it will be a tough game because West Ham are not in a good moment, they lost three games, they didn't have a good start for the season and maybe they have a great opportunity to fight against a team at the top,' he said.
'We have to know it can happen, against Wigan we had a lot of difficulty in the first half and it could be the same tomorrow.
'I think that Avram Grant has good experience and knowledge about football, he is able to manage the players. West Ham is a club with history and I think Avram can have a good job there,' he continued.
'I was surprised because they have good players in all positions, the strikers are very good, Cole and Piquionne are fantastic and in midfield they have Parker, and Upson in central defence. When you chance something it can happen at the start [that] you have more problems, but I am sure West Ham will have a good season. I don't think they will be involved in the bottom at the end.'
The end of the campaign was also raised with regard to Chelsea, with it brought to the manager's attention that both Branislav Ivanovic and Jose Bosingwa are out of contract in the summer of 2011.
'I think the club will speak with them to sign a new contract. It is not my work, not my job to speak with the players about contracts,' he explained. 'If I don't like these players I could say before this season to go, [but] they are here - this means we are happy to keep Ivanovic and Bosingwa in our squad.'
On a final note, Bosingwa is now nearing a return to action after a return to full training this week.
'This week he trained with the team for the first time, and is very close to coming back to play,' Ancelotti reported. 'I think again we need two weeks to train with the squad, play a friendly game, and in two or three weeks he will be fit.'
