PERFECT TIMING
Avram Grant believes we are in the right shape at the right time as we aim to make it three Premier League successes in four years.
Having won back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006, we sit three points behind Manchester United as they prepare to meet Arsenal at Old Trafford this afternoon.
Should results go our way, we could even sit top of the league by Thursday evening, after our trip to Everton, but for now attention is fixed firmly on Monday night's clash with Wigan Athletic, and Grant is in confident mood.
'We are in a good shape at the right time, after so many games in the last two or three months, 80 percent were good quality with good wins, so we are in good shape now. But there is always another game where you need to prove yourself,' he started.
'We are in the best situation since I came here, and even if we weren't, we always believed we could do something in the league. Even with five or four teams ahead of us, we believed we could do something in the league, and especially now.'
We are unbeaten in the league since December, and are the Premier League's form team, with 19 points taken from the last 21 available to us. Despite this, Grant anticipates a tricky match against Steve Bruce's side, despite our two wins at the JJB Stadium already this season.
'It is not easy to play against Wigan in my opinion. They are a good team and difficult to beat, when they lose they are losing 1-0 or 2-1, so I expect a very difficult game here,' said the manager.
Grant does have injury problems however, with two of our three first team goalkeepers still struggling with injuries. He spoke on Carlo Cudicini and Petr Cech's progress.
'Carlo is not available for the next weeks, we will know better next week, I think it is around four weeks, but the same injury players can come back in different times, sometimes it can be three, sometimes five, I don't know.
'Petr Cech is improving, we just finished training and I need to speak to the medical department to find what is happening.'
The Israeli also responded to questions regarding chairman Bruce Buck's comments during the week, and he sees little reason for any media attention.
'I need in one way or another to answer this question since the first day I was here,' he smiled. 'Nobody thought we would be in this situation when I took the team. We saw it would take more time, but we won a lot of games and the football is good, not 100 percent but it is good.
'I need to do my job, we are together. If the club were not happy they can say to me and I will go, it is not a matter of money, and I am sure if I wanted to go the club would understand me. All my life it was like this and it will not change.
'If I do my job most of the fans are happy, you always find some that are not happy but I think not even one fan imagined we would be in this situation now, so it makes most people happy.'
Another three points tomorrow, and we may just be one step closer to Premier League glory. And that would certainly make us all happy.
