Just a week after he suffered a facial injury that required 50 stitches, Petr Cech could be in contention to appear against Wigan tonight, so says Avram Grant.

Cech, who missed four months of last season with a fractured skull, has not appeared for us since March 1, due to an ankle injury and then last week's training ground accident.

Having observed the giant goalkeeper in light training this week, Grant refused to rule Cech out of tonight's game.

'I don't know, I said he is improving, we have tested a mask for him,' Grant explained. 'We need to go again with him, and in a way he is training. In one training he wore a mask, one he was without. We are checking all the possibilities with him.

'I cannot tell you now but we need to speak with the medical department and see how he is feeling, the chances are not so good. I think for the moment it is a risk, but I am not a doctor.'

Grant has also conceded that number two goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is likely to be out for around four weeks, which means Hilario, who replaced the Italian against Fenerbahçe last week, is in line to play tonight should Cech not make it.

So far this season, Cech has made 32 appearances, compared to Cudicini's 17 (one as sub) and Hilario's six (two sub).

Whoever is in goal for the Blues tonight is 7/2 to keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory. You can follow the game with live commentary Real Radio London on DAB or on Chelsea Plus, or right here at chelseafc.com via the Matchday Centre.
